Not being upfront: Give all your preferences, expectations, requirements and numbers accurately. Don't expect the service-staff to suddenly accommodate pets, extra guests, seniors etc at the last moment after you arrive. They get lured by fancy brochures, glossy pictures and glowing recommendations and could end up feeling angry, frustrated or worse, losing their money. Cross check the information provided – for instance “near the beach” could mean five km away! Are there enough supermarkets, medical facilities, accessibility to transport, entertainment and leisure centers and would you be able to fulfill your holiday requirements?

Not respecting the property: Remember that the villa is essentially a home and not a hotel. Don't crowd 15 people into a villa meant for six. Often the owners have to declare the occupancy and pay taxes and utilities based on this. Ensure that you or your co-travelers don't damage the property or the facilities. Check the terms and conditions carefully before finalizing.
